The Green Bay Packers cut field goal kicker Anders Carlson before the start of the 2024 season. He was on the team in 2023 as a rookie. Carlson was in camp with Greg Joseph and other kickers and none of those kickers won the job.
Instead, Green Bay decided to have Brayden Narveson as the team’s kicker to start the 2024 season. Narveson was with the Tennessee Titans during the preseason.
Green Bay Packers Could Consider Bringing Back Field Goal Kicker Anders Carlson After Brayden Narveson’s Latest Struggles
Narveson missed two field goals for the Packers during the 31-29 loss against the Minnesota Vikings. He is 9-of-13 this season and many Green Bay fans want head coach Matt LaFleur to end the Brayden Narveson experiment, but he is doubling down on him.
According to Rob Reischel of forbes.com, one of the field goal kickers that Green Bay could bring back this season is Anders Carlson. Reischel said:
“This might drive Packer Nation crazy. But it also might be a better option than Narveson.
Carlson, a sixth round draft pick by the Packers in 2023, had a rocky season a year ago. Carlson went 29-of-36 on field goals (80.6%) and 41-of-47 on extra points (87.2%).
Carlson and veteran Greg Joseph battled all summer for Green Bay’s place kicking job, and both players were eventually released.
While Carlson was inconsistent a year ago, he did improve this summer. And he was far more accurate during his time in Green Bay than Narveson has been.”
Anders Carlson had massive issues in the postseason and not during the regular season last year for the Green Bay Packers. He would be a better option than Brayden Narveson at this point.
Narveson Holds Himself Responsible For the Loss
Despite the Packers trailing 28-0 at one point in the game against the Vikings, Brayden Narveson held himself responsible to the media. He said:
“Those are critical misses and it’s unacceptable. (It) hurts. I’m sure you guys can all see it in my face. It hurts. But I just gotta look myself in the mirror, go back to the drawing board and be better. That’s about all I can say about it.”
For now, it doesn’t seem like Green Bay will bring a new kicker to potentially replace him. However, if Brayden Narveson doesn’t turn it around soon, they will have to bring back Anders Carlson or someone else to replace him.
