Milwaukee Brewers: 2 Arbitration Eligible Players Who Stand Out As Non-Tender Candidates

Soon, the Milwaukee Brewers will have to make decisions on a few arbitration eligible players as the tender deadline is Friday, November 22.  By 7:00 PM CT that evening, the organization will have had to formally tender contracts to unsigned players for the following season, including their arbitration-eligible players. If a player is non-tendered, he becomes a free agent.  During this time it is also common for players and organizations to agree on salaries for the upcoming season and avoid arbitration, but contract negotiations can continue until mid-January if needed.

Which Milwaukee Brewers players are arbitration eligible this off-season?

When the Brewers’ season concluded they initially had 10 players eligible for arbitration.  Those players, their projected 2025 salaries, and a full explanation of what arbitration is can be found by clicking here.  Since the start of the off-season, Milwaukee has parted ways with arbitration eligible players Jake Bauers and Bryse Wilson as they were placed on waivers, went unclaimed, were outrighted to Triple-A, and elected free agency.  They additionally declined club options on Devin Williams and Eric Haase, but they are still under team control and will go through the arbitration process.

    • LHP Hoby Milner stands out as a non-tender candidate

2024 was a rough season for the typically reliable and heavily utilized southpaw reliever.  Across 61 games and 64.2 innings pitched, Hoby Milner accrued a 4.73 ERA.  Between his struggles, the emergence of lefty relievers Jared Koenig and Bryan Hudson, it seems likely that Milwaukee will non-tender him and save the estimated $2.7 million that he is projected to earn in 2025.

    • RHP Aaron Civale stands out as a non-tender candidate

Aaron Civale is scheduled to see a bump in pay in 2025 in which MLB Trade Rumors has his final year of arbitration netting him around $8.0 million.  This is not an outrageous price tag for a pitcher of his caliber, but for a budget conscience team like Milwaukee odds are they are looking for ways to not pay that money.  They could tender him a contract and trade him later in the off-season, but if they are concerned about not being able to find a trade partner he could be non-tendered instead.

What major off-season event comes after the tender deadline?

Following the tender deadline, all players non-tendered become free agents and can be signed by any team.  Big free agent signings typically don’t start happening until Winter Meetings; which is scheduled for December 9-11.  The MLB Draft lottery and Rule-5 Draft also take place during the Winter Meetings.
