The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Jones decided to part ways this off-season. Jones played for the Packers for seven seasons. He has carried the ball 1,177 times for 5,940 yards, caught 272 passes for 2,076 yards, and scored 63 touchdowns. He was selected to play in 1 Pro Bowl.
He went from one of the most beloved Packers in team history to the enemy in a few short days. Jordan Love showed Aaron Jones and the rest of the league that he has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback in this league.
Now that Jones will be with Minnesota, he will (obviously) be playing with a new quarterback. After the Vikings agreed to a huge trade with the Texans, Jones’ new rumored quarterback is much different than Love.
Former Green Bay Packers’ RB Aaron Jones Is Widely Expected To Have Questionable New Quarterback After Trade
Frank Schwab of Yahoo Sports laid out the likeliest scenario for the Vikings to draft one of the top quarterbacks in this years’ draft:
Having two picks in the top 23 means the Vikings could make an aggressive move up. The dream would be moving into the top three for a shot at Caleb Williams, Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, but that would require a team in the top three (Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, New England Patriots) passing on one of those quarterbacks and moving down. That’s possible but it seems unlikely.
The extra draft picks could mean the Vikings are targeting someone like Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy after the top three, but want to move up and ensure they get him. Either way, it seems unlikely the Vikings acquired an extra first-round pick on March 15 just because they are going to stay at that pick and take an offensive tackle or cornerback.
The Minnesota Vikings Have Been Long-Linked To Michigan’s JJ McCarthy
Before the trade with the Texans, the Vikings were already favored to take McCarthy. This trade only increased those odds.
As a starter for Michigan, McCarthy threw for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions, completing 240-of-332 (72.3%) passes. He also had a career record of 27-1 as the starting quarterback at Michigan.
The season culminated in a 15-0 record and the College Football Playoff National Championship. His next steps include U-M’s Pro Day on March 22, as well as private meetings with multiple NFL teams. Even with his impressive college career, his ability to perform at a high level in the NFL has come under heavy scrutiny. So much so that he is often ranked as a possible day two selection. Let alone a top five pick.
When fans saw that Aaron Jones could very well go from Jordan Love to JJ McCarthy, they reacted on social media:
Tough look going from Love to McCarthy lol

Seth, I get what they’re going to TRY to do. But giving up premium draft capital to go get JJ McCarthy is not a good plan either.

Hey Brock, are you good? Comparing JJ McCarthy to Mahomes in itself is WILD. let go of this fantasy, he’s not coming to Seattle. https://t.co/wFfBKKqX2e

Idk what other people are seeing that I’m not but JJ McCarthy is not that good of a prospect https://t.co/baD65JsORh
