The Packers Defense Once Again Has High Expectations During The Off-Season
Earlier this off-season, the Packers announced Hafley will take over for Joe Barry, who was fired after three seasons in charge of Green Bay’s defense. At Boston College, Hafley was 22-26 in four seasons, including a 7-6 record with a victory over SMU in the Fenway Bowl this season.
“I loved my four years at Boston College,” Hafley said in a statement released by the school. “This is an exceptional place to coach given the caliber of student-athletes we recruit, the facilities and the support from the University and BC fans.
I will miss the players who gave so much of themselves these past four years, and my wife Gina and I will certainly miss the BC community and the many friends we have made here.”
In addition to Maurice Linguist leaving Buffalo and Kane Wommack leaving South Alabama to join new Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer’s staff, Hafley is the latest college head coach to move into an assistant role.
Before joining Ohio State in 2019, Hafley worked as an NFL secondary coach with Tampa Bay (2012-13), Cleveland (2014-15) and San Francisco (2016-18).
“Jeff has had success at every stop of his coaching career with an impressive track record of developing players at every level,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said in a statement announcing the hire. “We look forward to him leading our defense.”
