Yesterday, The Ringer updated their list of the top 100 players in the NBA. To the surprise of absolutely no one, Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo came in ranked as number one. Khris Middleton came in ranked 26th despite missing most of the season thus far as he recovered from offseason surgery. Jrue Holiday (29th) and Brook Lopez (42nd) were the other two Bucks players included on the list. It is easy to see why these four players made the list. Giannis is, well, Giannis. Middleton is a three-time All-Star and the Bucks’ second-best player. Jrue Holiday is playing on another level this season and Brook Lopez is a betting favorite for Defensive Player of the Year.

No Bobby Portis?
There was one glaring omission from The Ringer’s list of their top 100 players: Bobby Portis. So far this season, Portis is tied for third with 16 double-doubles. Of the league-leaders, he is the only player whose primary role is coming off of the bench. In addition to his third-place ranking in double-doubles, he is also averaging a double-double: 14.0 points and a career-high 10.3 rebounds.
Bobby Portis Reacts to Snub
When The Ringer posted their list on Twitter, of course it garnered a ton of reactions. One of those was from Bobby Portis himself, who responded in the most Portis-like way possible:
— Bobby BP Portis (@BPortistime) December 14, 2022
Like all rankings lists, The Ringer’s is completely subjective, meaning that it is all based on opinion. Portis knows that. However, he also has built himself up, using his career to change people’s minds about him. That is why he is “The Underdog.” Leaving such a deserving player off of their list has just added more fuel to the fire.
