Sal Frelick is putting on a show in the Major Leagues this season. Entering today, the 23 year old has just 38 games under his belt for his big league career with the Milwaukee Brewers, but he’s making an impact on both sides of the ball.
Brewers Need Every Win
That leads us to today, in a 0-0 tie in the top of the 10th playing the Yankees. Hanging on to a no-hitter in the 10th inning, Anthony Volpe made an attempt at ending the bid, along with the game. The team is fighting to stay atop the NL Central, and every win counts, especially when the games are this close.
That’s where he made this catch extend the game:
With big Joey Wiemer bearing down on him at the wall, Sal Frelick made the play of the year to push this game — and the Brewers’ bid for a no-hitter — to the 11th inning. Sweet sassy molassy. pic.twitter.com/XXSHMFQrZs

Sal Frelick and the Catch
With two on and two outs, Abner Uribe delivered a 0-0 98.2 MPH sinker that caught far too much of the plate and was middle-inside on the right-handed Volpe. It left Volpe’s bat at 99.1 MPH and headed to right center field. Joey Wiemer made an attempt to get there in time, but it was Sal Frelick that made what has to be in the running for catch of the year. Frelick ended up colliding with both the wall and Wiemer.
The right fielder was drafted out of Boston College as the first pick in the 2021 MLB Draft and made his MLB debut back on July 22nd. He was ranked the No. 17 prospect in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline. He’s amassed 1.3 fWAR in his brief time in the majors, and 3 DRS in right field this season.
