Eric Lauer was a bright spot for the Brewers again in 2022. It was a rocky start to his tenure with the Brewers to say the very least. After a much better 2021 season and pitching in game four of the NLDS, Lauer took that momentum and used it in 2022.
2022 Stats
In 2022, Eric Lauer finished with the following statistics.
- 11-7 record
- 3.69 ERA
- 13 quality starts
- 158.2 innings pitched
- 157 strikeouts
- 27 home runs given up
The 27 home runs is the biggest blemish on Lauer’s season. He also had a 6.83 ERA in July as that was a tough month for him. Other than that, Lauer was a solid fourth starter for the Brewers.
What To Expect in 2023
Lauer will definitely be in the Brewers rotation in 2023. He has turned into a solid starting pitcher in the majors. Ever since a 13.09 ERA in his first season with the Brewers in 2020, he has settled in has become a left handed starting pitcher the Brewers have been missing for awhile. I expect another good 2023 season with similar stat lines.
Location will be key for Lauer this upcoming season. He is really good with the high fastball and can generate a lot of strikeouts with that pitch. By no means is it over-powering, but it doesn’t have to be when he hits the location. At only 27 years old, Lauer should be entering the good years of his career and it should help the Brewers make a run into the postseason.
Final Grade
I’m giving Lauer a B+ for his 2022 season. Overall, it was a solid season. Most clubs will just want average and consistency from a fourth starting pitcher. Lauer did just that and was a relied upon starter making 29 starts in 2022.
