Continuing with our Brewers report cards, we next look at Freddy Peralta. It was a tough year for Peralta as he suffered a shoulder injury. He went from May 22 until August 3 between starts. Nonetheless, he is in the Brewers’ future plans. Here is a look at the Freddy Peralta stats & our report card for the pitcher.
Freddy Peralta Stats (2022)
With 2022 being a short year for Peralta, he only pitched 78 innings. In those 78 innings, he posted a record of 4-4 with a 3.58 ERA. The Freddy Peralta stats did accumulate to 86 strikeouts and 27 walks. Overall, those are not bad numbers. It’s especially encouraging because Peralta is a part of the Brewers’ future. He signed a team-friendly five-year $15.5 million deal just a few years ago. When Peralta is consistently throwing strikes, he can be one of the best pitchers in baseball.
What To Expect in 2023
The big thing for Freddy Peralta and his stats in 2023 is staying healthy and getting out of the first inning with minimal damage. It can take some time for him to get settled into a start, and he tends to have high-pitch counts. I love his fastball, and he should only get better at throwing breaking balls. There’s no doubt Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff are the 1-2 punch in the Milwaukee rotation, but when Peralta is on, he can be just as good as Burnes and Woodruff. You won’t find many third-in-the-rotation starters in MLB better than Freddy Peralta when he is on his A game.
Freddy Peralta Stats & Final Grade
I give Freddy an incomplete just because he missed three months of the season. A 3.58 ERA for a starting pitcher isn’t bad, as well as an almost 4:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio. However, 78 innings is not a lot to go off of. I think Freddy Peralta and his stats have a nice bounce back in 2023.
