Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras has gone viral before for different reasons, some people even calling him a cool guy.
His latest act has many internet people divided though.
The two-time All-Star, who had a great 2024 season performance- and financial-wise, is currently back home in Venezuela and seems to be having a great time based on his social media activities.
Among these activities include handing out aid to people in need on the street. In a video he posted on Instagram, he tried to buy arepas from a street vendor and handed an amount that is more than what the vendor is selling his product for.
It was a $100 dollar bill equivalent to VES 5186.00.
The vendor was hesitant to accept the amount but Contreras pushed that the old man accept the amount.
The man was breaking down in tears when he accepted the MLB star’s gesture.
Contreras’ gesture continue to make rounds on the Venezuelan internet. Many thought the Brewers player is just one of the things this world needs.
“The Lord has a beautiful voice,” said local artist Lido Pimienta.
Others want to double his act of kindness.
“Look for the man again, please, and put him in as a sales representative of some kind of retail in Caracas or Valencia. The lexicon, the education it has.. please. If any Venezuelan manager is reading me 🙏,” wrote influencer Maureen Oduba on Contreras Instagram post.
William Contreras’ act is received differently on Facebook
It seems Facebook and Instagram are two different worlds.
While the reception of his gesture is generally positive over on Instagram, others were skeptic. They think Contreras only did it for his ego.
“Unnecessary, humiliating and pathetic show to elevate your own ego, if you really want to help someone you respect their privacy and do not expose him as a beggar, the man is working deserves dignity,” wrote on user on a baseball Facebook account that reposted the act.
Yen Mat has different argument.
“If they make viral videos that do not contribute anything, there is nothing wrong with videos where they encourage good acts 🤷”
