Early Signing Day brought a flurry of signings to the Wisconsin program. Many 3 and 4-star recruits are coming to Madison in the spring. Luke Fickell and his staff can add another one to the list. 3-star defensive lineman Will McDonald signs with the Badgers as a preferred walk-on.
#Wisconsin just announced Will McDonald has signed as a preferred walk-on. The standout from Hudson had full rides from Kansas and Iowa State but turned those down in order to play for the #Badgershttps://t.co/TDEc3Ev8qA

Will McDonald Signs With The Badgers
McDonald’s signing tells you what need to know about the culture that Luke Fickell is building. The 3-star prospect had full-ride offers from both Kansas and Iowa State. He decided to come to the Badgers as a preferred walk-on. The 6’4″ 235-pound defensive lineman from Hudson, Wisconsin adds some more defensive depth to the 2023 class. McDonald being an in-state player most likely played a role in his coming to Wisconsin as well.
The Badgers Are Building A Defense
Getting Nick Evers and a couple of big-name receivers in the 2023 class gives some optimism about the offense. However, the amount of defensive talent in this class is exciting. Six of the commits are in the defensive backfield so it is good to see an interior lineman commit. Three of those six are 4-star recruits. Add in three more linebacker recruits in the 2023 class and the Wisconsin defense is going to look scary in the coming years if the recruits pan out. The Badgers know what it takes to win in the Big Ten. Offense is great but defense is what wins championships.
It is always great to see homegrown talent stay in-state. Will McDonald signing with the Badgers is another great prospect for Luke Fickell and his staff. According to 247, the Badgers are near the bottom in terms of rankings in the Big Ten for recruiting. However, Fickell and his staff have shown that given a full year, they have the ability to bring big recruits to Madison.
