The Marquette men’s basketball team has started off the season well. They sit at 9-3 with all three losses coming against ranked opponents. They were also single-digit losses as well meaning they held their own in those games. Big wins against Baylor and Notre Dame give the Golden Eagles some quality wins. Last week, many thought Marquette was snubbed. This week Marquette makes their debut in the Top 25 being ranked for the first time this season.

Marquette Ranked For The First Time This Season
Last week, Marquette got some votes but couldn’t crack the Top 25. This week, they have impressed enough people to be ranked no. 24. They only had one game this week but it was a good win against a tough Creighton team. Their best win was a 26-point drubbing of the Baylor Bears at home. The team is led by Kam Jones who is averaging 15.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.3 rebounds per game. He has nearly doubled his scoring output from last season. Marquette is off to a great start and is looking to be a contender in the Big East.
One Of Two Ranked Big East Teams
Marquette is one of two Big East teams to be ranked. The other is UConn which currently sits at no. 2 in the county but did receive 21 first-place votes. One team to watch out for is St. Johns. They sit at 11-1 on the season. However, they lack a real statement win. All of their wins have been against unranked opponents so the AP is not giving them any votes for the Top 25. However, if they keep winning, they might crack the Top 25 soon.
It is great to see Marquette be ranked for the first time this season in the Top 25. Hopefully, they can stay in the top 25 throughout the season and compete with UConn for the Big East. Marquette only plays once this week traveling to Providence.
