The Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, and Houston Astros have all had near no-hitters over the course of the last six days. For each team their run at history was broken up in the ninth inning or later. Ironically this does link all three teams together in a different rare piece of history.
Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado Rockies, and Houston Astros are all linked together in near no-hitter history.
According to Elias Sports the Brewers, Rockies, and Astros three no-hit bids being broken up in the ninth inning or later in the span of six days is the shortest span in at least the expansion era (1961). Let’s take a further look at each of these near no-hit bids.
Milwaukee Brewers vs New York Yankees no-hit bid.
Of the near no-hitters the Brewers bid was the longest and actually went into extra innings. It was broken up in the bottom of the 11th inning and Milwaukee actually went on to lose the game in the 13th inning. Pitchers involved in the combined no-hitter included Corbin Burnes (eight innings), Devin Williams (one innings), and Abner Uribe (one inning).
Colorado Rockies vs San Francisco Giants no-hit bid.
For the Rockies, Chase Anderson went 7.0 scoreless innings. He then handed off to Justin Lawrence, who worked 0.1 innings. Nick Mears worked the eighth and ninth innings but gave up a double to J.D. Davis in the top of the ninth. The Giants ended up scoring in the ninth and taking the lead but the Rockies rallied in the ninth to walk it off and win 3-2.
Houston Astros vs Oakland Athletics no-hit bid.
Houston nearly threw their second no-hitter of the year against the Athletics, but the one they lost was a team approach. They used five pitchers including starter Hunter Brown and relievers Rafael Montero, Hector Neris, Bryan Abreu, and Ryan Pressly. Ryan Noda of the Athletics broke up the no-hitter with one out in the top of the ninth off of Ryan Pressly.
