Green Bay Packers Greatest Players: #94- Mike McCoy

Not to be confused with Mike McCoy the defensive back, Mike McCoy the defensive tackle played for the Packers from 1970-1976. He was the second overall pick in the 1970 NFL Draft and was an immediate starter on the defense. In his rookie season, he recorded 3.5 sacks and was named the Packers Rookie of the Year.
In seven seasons with the Packers, McCoy racked up 29.0 sacks and an AV of 47. In his final season with the Packers, McCoy had a career high 8.5 sacks before departing for the Oakland Raiders. He continued to play in the NFL for the Raiders, Detroit Lions, and New York Giants until 1980, but was never the same player he was in Green Bay. His overall career AV is 57, meaning he averaged an AV less than 3 in his four final NFL seasons. While with the Packers, he averaged an AV close to 7.
