The Green Bay Packers kick-started the Jordan Love era with a 38-20 beatdown over their bitter NFC North Rival, the Chicago Bears. Matt Lafleur and company are looking to advance to 2-0 for the first time since 2020. Set to square off against the Atlanta Falcons, Arthur Smith’s group knocked off the Carolina Panthers in week 1. Spoiling the debut of the number one overall pick from April’s draft, Bryce Young, they held the former Heisman Trophy winner to just 154 yards through the air while forcing him into two interceptions.
Meanwhile, Atlanta once again leaned on their potent ground game offensively. Bijan Robinson totalled 83 yards from scrimmage and a score in his first NFL game, while second-year man Tyler Allgier had 75 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Here are three bold predictions for week 2.
Green Bay Packers vs Atlanta Falcons: Three Bold Predictions
3. Luke Musgrave Eclipses 100 Receiving Yards
The 42nd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Musgrave was strong in his first game with Green Bay a week ago. Receiving an increased role in the absence of Christian Watson, the 23-year-old played 81 percent of the snaps. He finished second in both receptions and receiving yards. Both Watson and star running back Aaron Jones are questionable for Sunday.
The Oregon State product will square off against an Atlanta secondary that allowed the 12th-highest yards per reception and seventh-most receiving yards to tight ends a year ago. Furthermore, they allowed Hayden Hurst to haul in five catches for 41 yards and a touchdown against them last Sunday. With standout linebacker Troy Anderson already being ruled out with a concussion, look for Musgrave to put together a monster performance as the first of out three bold predictions.
2. The Packers Hold the Atlanta to Under 100 Yards on the Ground
One of the NFL’s premier rushing attacks, the Falcons finished seventh in yards per game in 2022 (130). Along with this, Atlanta also averaged more than five yards per attempt while ranking fourth in rushing play percentage. Led by their two-headed tandem of Robinson and Allgeir, the duo helped carry the team to an opening-day victory over the Panthers. They each amassed over 75 yards from scrimmage while combining for five runs of 10-plus yards.
Green Bay bottled up the Bears rushing attack in week 1. Choosing to elevate Devonte Wyatt and third-year player Tedarrell Slaton into the starting lineup, the Packers also saw Karl Brooks and Colby Wooden play a big role in their first games as rookies. Joe Barry and company will need more of the same if they hope to pull out the victory on Sunday as the second of our three bold predictions.
1. Rashan Gary Records Three Sacks
Gary is back healthy after he suffered a torn ACL against the Detroit Lions in week 9 last season. The former first-round pick was held to a pitch count against the Bears in the opener. He played just 12 snaps, with most of them coming on third down. However, the Michigan product was still able to record a remarkable 42.9 pecent pressure rate by recording a pressure on three of his seven pass rush attempts.
Home to one of the better offensive lines around the league, Atlanta’s group struggled mightily early on against the Panthers. Allowing both Derek Brown and Brian Burns to wreak havoc, the tandem combined for 2.5 sacks while making life miserable for second-year quarterback Desmond Ridder. Expect more of the same from Gary in week 2 as our third and final bold prediction.
