The #17 Marquette Golden Eagles have a road showdown in Big East Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they take on the St. John’s Red Storm. Tip-off for this contest will take place at 11 a.m. CT and it will be televised on FOX.
Marquette bounced back on Monday with a win against the Villanova Wildcats. Saturday’s contest for the Golden Eagles will be no walk in the park either. Their record so far this season is 12-5 overall and 3-3 in Big East Conference play. They are currently sixth in the conference.
As for the St. John’s Red Storm, they have a 12-6 overall record and a 4-3 record in Big East Conference play. St. John’s is currently in fifth place in the Big East. This will be a huge game in momentum swings for the Big East Conference.
Head coach Shaka Smart knows how important this game is because a loss here means that they would have more losses in conference play than all of last season. Against Villanova, three players scored in double figures for Marquette.
Kam Jones led the way with 22 points for the Marquette Golden Eagles. Tyler Kolek scored 21 points for Marquette and he will need to score a ton of points for them if they are going to be able to beat St. John’s on Saturday. Oso Ighodaro also added 18 points.
Players To Watch For on the St. John’s Red Storm Against the Marquette Golden Eagles
The St. John’s Red Storm’s most recent game was on the road against the Seton Hall Pirates. St. John’s lost 80-65 against Seton Hall and it wasn’t as close as the final score indicated. The Red Storm hope to get head coach Rick Pitino back on the sidelines on Saturday against Marquette due to COVID-19.
Only two players scored in double figures for St. John’s. Daniss Jenkins scored 17 points and Zuby Ejofor scored 13 points. The player the Marquette Golden Eagles defense needs to watch out for the entire game with their eyes is Joel Soriano. He only scored six points the other night for the Red Storm, but he is one of their top players.
This feels like a basketball game that can come down to the wire. The team that hustles to 50-50 balls and the team that is more committed to the defensive end of the floor will come out on top in the Golden Eagles and St. John’s Red Storm matchup.
