The Wisconsin volleyball team has started off the 2024 season with a victory after defeating Bradley 3-0 behind middle blocker Carter Booth.
The Badgers took on the visiting Bradley Braves team at home to open their 2024 season before the upcoming Women’s College Volleyball Showcase. Wisconsin played a solid game, but struggled at times and let Bradley into the game particularly during the second set. Wisconsin was able to hold onto all three sets, and walked away with the 3-0 victory behind a sharp performance from the 6-foot-7-inch middle blocker Booth.
Wisconsin Volleyball Defeats Bradley, 3-0, Behind Middle Blocker Carter Booth, Outside Hitter Sarah Franklin
Volleyball is officially back in Madison as the Wisconsin volleyball team hosted the Bradley Braves to begin the 2024 season. Wisconsin opened the game with a 25-17 victory in the first set where the team recorded 14 kills behind 38.5% shooting. The second set was a different story, as Wisconsin shot 20.5% during 39 total attacks, but still snuck away with a 25-22 win.
The Badgers put everything together and played their best volleyball in the third set, walking away with a 25-14 win. The Wisconsin volleyball team struggled to shoot at times, but held the Bradley Braves to a 3.3% conversion rate. Middle blocker Carter Booth shined for the Wisconsin Badgers, recording 12 kills on 14 attacks and five total blocks.
Outside hitter Sarah Franklin also added quite a lot on offense for the team, recording ten kills and three service aces as well.
Wisconsin Badgers Struggled to Convert at Times During Season Opener
One thing that stood out against Bradley for the Wisconsin volleyball team was their difficulties converting at times. Outside of Booth shooting a hot 71.4%, the next three top scorers for Wisconsin shot a combined 24.9% against Bradley. It was a particularly tough night for Franklin, who snagged ten kills on 29 total attacks.
While Wisconsin struggled at times, the shots will fall as the team continues to work themselves into shape for the season.
Wisconsin Faces Tough Road Ahead During First Serve, College Volleyball Showcases
The Badgers have three tough tests in particular ahead of them in the form of showcases to start the 2024 volleyball season. First, Wisconsin is traveling to Louisville, Kentucky to face the #6 Louisville Cardinals in what will be the first real test of the season. Bradley admittedly put up quite the fight and did not back down against the Badgers, but the Cardinals should be a whole different level of competition for Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin volleyball team will not get a break after the Cardinals, however, as they then will enter the Women’s College Volleyball Showcase at the Fiserv Forum. Texas, Wisconsin, Stanford, and Minnesota are the four teams that were invited this season, with the first three making the national quarterfinals last season. The Wisconsin Badgers will face the top-ranked Texas Longhorns first before facing the #5 Stanford Cardinal squad a day later.
In the first ten games of the season for the Wisconsin volleyball team, the Badgers will face five ranked opponents, including the top-ranked school in Texas. The Badgers really could not ask for a more difficult way to open the season, but there is also no better way to see what the team is made of then to challenge themselves early on.
