Tyler Van Dyke is apparently leaving Wisconsin football, as he is reportedly entering the transfer portal. The Wisconsin Badgers quarterback appeared in only three games in the 2024 college football regular season, as his first year with the team was cut short by a brutal ACL injury he suffered during a game against the Alabama Crimson Tide at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison on Sep. 14.
Via Pete Thamel of ESPN:
Source: Wisconsin quarterback Tyler Van Dyke is entering the NCAA transfer portal. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining. He has 7,891 career passing yards and 55 career touchdown passes in his time at Miami and Wisconsin.
In three games under center for the Badgers in 2024, Van Dyke, who will turn 24 years old next March, compiled just 422 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions. He also rushed for 26 yards and a touchdown on 15 total carries for the Badgers, who finished the regular season with just a 5-7 overall record and 3-6 against Big Ten rivals.
Before coming over to Wisconsin, Van Dyke spent four years with the Miami Hurricanes.
After Van Dyke suffered the injury in the Alabama game, the Badgers opted to go with Braedyn Locke to take over the starting quarterbacking duties for the team.
Fans react to Wisconsin Football QB’s decision
Social media reactions to Van Dyke’s transfer portal news have been mixed, though, many chose to make fun of him with all sorts of jokes and memes.
“Dude’s gonna be selling life insurance this fall.”
“I feel like Dyke has been playing college ball for a decade.”
“Wish him a healthy recovery and all the best. As should any college football fans with any class or decency. People who trash him in any way are the real trash.”
