The Wisconsin Badgers finished the season with a 5-7 record and one of the biggest issues for them this season was quarterback play. Tyler Van Dyke’s season ended early with a torn ACL. Braedyn Locke stepped in to start most of the games for Wisconsin during the 2024 season.

He did not perform well at all. At one point during the 2024 college football season, the Badgers fanbase was calling for Locke to be benched.

Unfortunately For the Wisconsin Badgers Braedyn Locke Is the Projected Starting Quarterback In 2025 For Now

According to Brauilo Perez of badgerofhonor.com, he thinks that the Badgers starting quarterback for the 2025 season for now will be Braedyn Locke. This would come as a surprise considering the fact he played poorly toward the end of the season for Wisconsin. Perez said:

“As things stand, Braedyn Locke would be the starter if the ’25 campaign were to start tomorrow. Thankfully, that’s not the case – there’s still plenty of time for Fickell to bring in outside help (we’ll get to that below).

Behind Locke, you’d have redshirt freshman Mabrey Mettauer, who plenty of fans were hoping would replace Locke late in the season. Then, 4-star signee Carter Smith and fellow ’25 signee Landyn Locke are on the way to campus as well, while Milos Spasojevic, a preferred walk-on from 2024, would round things out.

It goes without saying, but Fickell and his coaches are surely going to take a look at the transfer portal to bring in some help for the quarterbacks room. Throughout this past season, Locke proved far too many times he’s not the answer behind center for Wisconsin.”

A lot of fans also thought that firing offensive coordinator Phil Longo would fix things during the season, but the issues on offense were deeper than that. They can not afford to go into next season with Braedyn Locke as the starting quarterback.

Transfer Portal

For the last two years, the Wisconsin Badgers have used the transfer portal to find a starting quarterback, but it has not worked out well for them. Would Wisconsin find its starting quarterback for the 2025 season through the transfer portal? It remains to be seen what happens.

Tyler Van Dyke was from Miami and Wisconsin got him last year. Two years ago, they got Tanner Mordecai from SMU. It is unknown at this time which quarterback the Wisconsin Badgers will want through the transfer portal. However one thing is clear, the Wisconsin Badgers fanbase will want to see massive progress from head coach Luke Fickell in his third season or it could be a major problem for them.
