The Wisconsin basketball staff has landed another commitment from outside of the United States, but in the 2025 recruiting class this time.
New Zealand native and FIBA representative Hayden Jones, a talented and dynamic guard, has announced his commitment to Wisconsin. Jones plays in the NBL for the Nelson Giants, but is better known for his recent performances at the U17 World Cup. The guard will join Serbia native and fellow international player Andrija Vukovic on the Wisconsin basketball roster in the future.
Wisconsin Basketball Lands Third Commitment of 2025 Recruiting Class With Hayden Jones
The Wisconsin basketball staff and in particular Head Coach Greg Gard have put on their recruiting caps when it comes to the future classes. Wisconsin finished the 2024 class with the 64th overall class ranking despite landing a solid four-star commitment in guard Daniel Freitag.
The 2025 recruiting class for Wisconsin already has more commitments than their 2024 class did before the transfer portal opened after a new face announced his intentions. New Zealand native and combo guard Hayden Jones announced his commitment to the Wisconsin basketball team after a successful summer season. Jones is the third commitment in the 2025 recruiting class for the Wisconsin staff early on, and likely will not be the last commitment either.
Jones, a professional basketball player in New Zealand, represents the national team and recently competed in the U17 World Cup. The guard averaged 11.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game during his time playing for New Zealand earlier this month. While Jones is a professional player in New Zealand, he has only played an average of 2.3 minutes over two seasons.
What Can Jones Add to the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Team?
With Jones, Wisconsin gains a balance of experience and technical skill that they did not quite have before. Jones has played at the highest of levels of international basketball, and along with that has also played against the United States multiple times in the past. The guard is not stranger to big games or loud crowds, and should fit right into the atmosphere he has committed to.
On the court, Jones provides a great level of technical skill and basketball intelligence with his play. The guard crashes the boards and follows his shots while rebounding with great skill. When he shoots the ball, Jones is a three-level scorer that has an eye for cutting towards the basket. Jones is willing to fight for a good look close to the basket and is not shy when it comes to drawing a foul.
Wisconsin Basketball Holds Sixth-Ranked 2025 Recruiting Class
With a commitment from Jones, the Wisconsin basketball staff now holds three commitments in the 2025 class as they continue to build it. The class has been highlighted by in-state phenom and four-star guard Zach Kinziger, who has been on fire since his commitment nearly a year ago. Kinziger originally committed to Wisconsin as a three-star recruit, but has since propelled himself into a four-star recruit with his play.
Wisconsin also holds another in-state commitment in the 2025 recruiting class for big center Will Garlock. Garlock is 7-feet tall and has been on the Wisconsin recruiting board since he started his high school basketball career. The center committed to Wisconsin earlier this year after a successful recruiting and skills camp with the staff.
