It has been a while since the last time Wisconsin basketball defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini. In fact, after their 86-80 loss to Brad Underwood’s team on Tuesday night at State Farm Center in Champaign, the Badgers have now lost to the Fighting Illini nine consecutive times, dating back to the 2019-20 college basketball campaign.
Underwood, however, was gracious when he talked about his team’s ongoing streak versus Greg Gard’s squad.
Illinois head coach Brad Underwood on the nine-game winning streak over Wisconsin.
“I have so much respect for that coaching staff and what they do. You stay in this long enough, certain things happen. That’s a really good basketball team we beat.”
The last time Wisconsin took down the Fighting Illini took place on February 18, 2019, when the Badgers handed Illinois a 64-58 loss at Kohl Center. In that contest, Brad Davison led the Badgers with 18 points while Khalil Iverson added 16 points. The other side had Ayo Dosunmu pacing Illinois with 13 points.
Wisconsin basketball is trending down fast after yet another loss
The loss to the Fighting Illini is also the third-straight this season for Wisconsin basketball, which suffered defeats at the hands of the Michigan Wolverines and No. 5 Marquette Golden Eagles before falling prey to Illinois.
The Badgers, who are 8-3 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten play, will look to turn things around before it gets worse on Saturday when they play the Butler Bulldogs in a neutral-site Indy Classic game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
