Kelly Sheffield, coach of the Wisconsin Badgers volleyball program, recently announced the signing of three players. Grace Egan and Grace Lopez are joining through the transfer portal whereas Aniya Warren recently committed to UW-Madison and will be an incoming freshman. Here’s what coach Sheffield had to say about his recent transfer from Ohio State University.
Grace Egan transferred to the Wisconsin Badgers volleyball program from Ohio State University
Redshirt freshman Grace Egan announced prior to the Wisconsin Badgers sweet 16 game in December that she was transferring to UW-Madison, but the university most recently finally announced it as official. The 6’1″ Sterling, Illinois native has three years of eligibility remaining, in which an injury ended her 2023 season prematurely. She got lots of court time in 2024 with Ohio State, but will be looking to elevate her game even further with Wisconsin in 2025 and potentially beyond.

Grace Egan statistics
Outside hitter Grace Egan averaged 2.53 kills and 2.03 digs per set in 2024 with the Buckeyes. Her best game came against the Wisconsin Badgers when she delivered 22 kills. While she still has much to prove on the volleyball court, Egan previously said that one major reason she chose UW-Madison over the 80 other schools that reached out was because, “I have a lot of career goals and things I want to do in my collegiate career. I think when coach Sheffield was saying how much I can achieve and how much he can help me grow my game…I knew I had to go there.”
Coach Sheffield believes that Grace Egan is just starting to scratch the surface of her potential
After Kelly Sheffield announced that Grace Egan’s transfer was official, he mentioned that “Grace is an exciting athlete and competitor who is just starting to scratch the surface of what she can become. She’s missed a lot of matches her first two seasons due to injury, but is healthy and ready to go. We saw first-hand her skill and competitive drive when we played against her in our last weekend of the regular season. She can get on the ball fast and has good touch on the ball when she passes.”
Grace Egan has an incredible opportunity ahead of her as the Badgers volleyball program lost seniors Sarah Franklin and Julia Orzol. Expect Egan to play a major role in 2025.
