Two weeks ago, Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball coach Marisa Moseley resigned from her position, citing personal reason. It was not hard, though, for fans to figure out what those reasons were. Earlier this year, one former Badgers player claimed on social media that Moseley was physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive towards her players.
“My freshman year of college, I felt like a lab rat for my coaches and staff because they would put me on new medications every other week,” former Wisconsin center Tessa Towers wrote in captions over photos of her in a Wisconsin uniform. “I was 17 years old.”
Towers also alleged that Moseley forced her to grant the coaching staff access to her therapy records and transcripts.
It did not take long for Wisconsin athletic director Chris McIntosh to find Moseley’s replacement, though. Today, the university announced the hiring of Robin Pingeton as the new Badgers women’s basketball coach.
The Wisconsin Badgers Have Hired Robin Pingeton as Their Women’s Basketball Coach

In a statement released by Wisconsin, McIntosh said, “I am extremely pleased that Robin will be joining the Wisconsin Athletics family. She has accomplished so much as a coach and has produced winners both on the court and in the classroom. Robin has Midwest roots and coaching experience and she and her family will fit right into our local community as well as our state. I am thrilled to welcome Robin, her husband, Rich, and their two sons to Wisconsin.”
Pingeton spent the last 15 years as the women’s head basketball coach at Missouri. While there, she compiled a record of 250-218, but only made the NCAA Tournament four times. The last time Missouri appeared in the tournament was in 2019. She was, however, named the SEC Coach of the Year in 2016-17.
Prior to her decade and a half in the SEC, Pingeton spent seven years at Illinois State of the Missouri Valley Conference, where she won Coach of the Year twice.
Pingeton recently resigned from Missouri following her second consecutive losing season.
“I am excited to get to Madison and get to work,” Pingeton said in her own statement. “Relationships are very important to me. I appreciate the time I spent with Chris McIntosh and Marcus Sedberry and I can tell my value system aligns with the people at Wisconsin. I learned a lot in almost 15 years in the Southeastern Conference and I am ready to apply that in Madison while also evolving with the changing landscape in college athletics. There is a rich tradition of athletics success at Wisconsin and I can’t wait to get started!”
Wisconsin Badgers Fans Are Furious with the Hire of Robin Pingeton

While the Badgers athletic department and Pingeton are excited for their next chapter together, Wisconsin fans are concerned that the team chose a coach who was just fired (and does not utilize the transfer portal) to be the next head coach of the women’s basketball team.
Is this a joke?

Lazy hire honestly at this point in time

C’mon. You CAN’T be serious. I’ve had 3 kids go through UW and Bucky hasn’t been relevant in Women’s hoops in ANY of those 12+ years….and this is your hire?

Did they throw darts at pictures for this hire? Very unsuccessful coaching career thus far. Mac is just going through the motions

I have covered Wisconsin women’s basketball for five years now.
I loved everything about what this program had been up until last season.
Last season drained me. The allegations, the tough games, and then Wisconsin making it clear they don’t want to support women’s basketball.

Hopefully Coach Pingeton finds some success and can return Wisconsin women’s basketball to relevance. Unfortunately, fans do not seem to think she will.
