It took him 10 years but Kenny Guiton is finally coaching in a position he played for during his amateur and professional years. He is thankful for Wisconsin Badgers for that.
Guiton was confirmed as the team’s new quarterbacks coach following the firing of Phil Longo in November last year. He has been part of the team since January 2024 but his focus was as wide receivers coach.
Guiton expressed happiness in finally landing a QB coaching job which he said has been his goal long before.
“Definitely itching to have this opportunity,” Guiton told reporters and as quoted by 247 Sports.
“It’s obviously been a goal of mine since the beginning of coaching. I’ve always wanted to get in that room and be able to affect some quarterbacks.
Offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes appears bullish about working with Guiton based on their short time together and after the latter revealed his coaching philosophy.
“I’ve really been impressed with, not only his knowledge of the game, but his passion for it and his excitement about coaching the position,” he said. We talked to a lot of people about that job, interviewed several in person.”
Guiton has been coaching since 2015 after concluding his short professional career with the Buffalo Bills. He played college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Kenny Guiton on new Wisconsin Badgers’ QBs
The job will be a little harder for Guinto this season after veteran quarterbacks in the team decided to enter transfer portal or go to the draft.
The biggest name scratched off from the squad is Tyler Van Dyke who entered the transfer portal in December and has now committed to the Miami Hurricanes.
Wisconsin Badgers currently has three quarterbacks that will return for them. They are senior Billy Edwards, a Maryland transfer, sophomore Danny O’Neill who transferred from San Diego State, and freshman Carter Smith.
Although their time together is still small, Guiton said he is already impressed with the three of them.
“I see three guys that are eager. Obviously, in a small amount of time that I’ve had the chance to get with them, to learn, I think you’re gonna get much better leadership.”
