The Wisconsin Badgers are on their way to the Big Ten Conference Championship Game on Sunday. If they are able to pull out a victory over the winner of the Maryland versus Michigan game, Wisconsin will clinch its first Big Ten Championship since 2015. Of course, a win on Sunday would also give them an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, and perhaps a top two seed, which would mean they could possibly open tournament play in Milwaukee.
As has been the case all season, the Badgers were led by their star guard John Tonje, who made a bit of NCAA history in Wisconsin’s 77-74 victory over Michigan State on Saturday.
Wisconsin Badgers Guard John Tonje Accomplished Something No Player Has Done Since UCONN’s Kemba Walker

Tonje continued his spectacular 2024-25 season with 32 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a block against the Spartans. Going into the game, he had averages of 19.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Tonje is also shooting 47/40/91 on the season.
What was notable about his performance on Saturday, though, is that it was his third 30+ point performance against a team ranked in the AP Top 25 this season. No NCAA player has had three 30-point games against such opponents since UCONN’s Kemba Walker in 2014-15:
Wisconsin’s John Tonje is the first player with a 30-point game in 3 wins over AP Top-10 teams in a single season since UConn’s Kemba Walker in 2010-11.
– 41 in a win over (9) Arizona in November
– 32 in a win at (7) Purdue in February
– 32 in a win vs (7) Michigan State today— Jared Berson (@JaredBerson) March 15, 2025
Most importantly, though, Wisconsin has won each of those three games.
