The Wisconsin Badgers are in the Big Ten Finals looking for their first conference championship since 2015. While Wisconsin has perennially put together a competitive team, there have been few instances in which one might be able to call them a contender for the Big Ten title over the last decade.
For better or worse, the transfer portal and NIL rules have made it difficult for schools like Wisconsin to recruit and keep star players. Fortunately, the Badgers were able to land John Tonje in the portal, and he has emerged as a legitimate star for them.
Wisconsin Badgers Star John Tonje Is Not Worried About Being Held Scoreless in the First Half vs Michigan

Wisconsin is locked in an intense battle with Michigan in the Big Ten Conference Championship game. At the half, the Badgers led the Wolverines by the score of 23-21.
Tonje had not scored at all in the first half and had only taken four shots.

When asked about being held scoreless in the half, Tonje replied, “I couldn’t care less how many points I have, we’re just trying to get out and get a win.”
Playing in his sixth collegiate season, but first with the Badgers, Tonje is averaging 19.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He is also shooting 48/40/91 from the floor.
As of this writing, Wisconsin and Michigan are tied at 45 points with 5:19 left to play. Tonje has scored six points, but they have all come on free throws. He is 0/9 from the floor, which includes an 0/4 mark from three.
One can hardly be surprised that both teams are struggling offensively, though. After all, this is their fourth game in the last four days.
