Wisconsin Badgers football may have not made an ideal finish to the 2024 season but their safety Hunter Wohler did and he is carrying that to the offseason as he prepares for the 2025 National Football League draft.
The 22-year-old Wisconsin native participated at the Reese’s Senior Bowl which was graced by a number of NFL scouts.
NFL writer Gery Woelfel said Wohler made a lasting impression to some scouts because of his versatility and high football I.Q.
“He’s a baller,” an NFC scout was quoted as saying when asked about Wohler.
“You’d like him to be a little faster but he’s a smart player who does a lot of good things. He’s going to be on someone’s active roster next season.”
Wohler spent four seasons with the Badgers and his most productive one was during his junior year when he recorded a total of 120 tackles, six for loss, one sack and two interceptions. His 120 tackles is the most any Badgers players achieved since Reggie Holt tallied 144 in 1991.
He is projected to go in the fourth round but with his strong showing in the senior bowl, it should not be surprising if he gets picked early.
Hunter Wohler leaving Wisconsin Badgers with confidence
Wohler’s confidence continues to rise as he makes an attempt to go pro.
That’s what he feels, too, about the Badgers which received criticism from fans for their 2024 season when they failed to earn any Bowl participation.
He said the program is going the right direction and his former coach Luke Fickell will drive them towards better seasons.
“We went through some stuff. But, coach Fick’s a great dude and a great coach. He wants the best for his entire team. Me and him got along really well, and saw eye-to-eye on a lot of things. I think he’s going to get that program in the right direction. Sadly, I won’t be there for when that happens, but he’ll get them straight,” he said in an interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics reporter Matt Lombardo.
