Former Wisconsin Badger Skylar Bell announced on Wednesday that he is pulling out of the transfer portal and is heading back to UConn. Bell will be the first leading receiver to return to the program since Keelan Marion did so for the 2022 season.
He had been highly sought after in the transfer portal after leading UConn with 860 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season. Bell had a breakout season for the Huskies, including a three-receptions-for-77-yards and a touchdown performance vs. UNC in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl.
Skylar Bell migrating from the Wisconsin Badgers to UConn
He transferred to UConn from Wisconsin for the 2024 season. Bell has been in the portal since Dec. 17 and took a visit to the University of Michigan prior to the dead period.
Bell’s performance at UConn after transferring from Wisconsin showed his ability as a receiver with good yardage and touchdown statistics. His background includes being a three-star recruit with offers from several Power Five schools.
Rumors swirling about Bell committing to Michigan
Predictions and reports had Michigan leading the recruitment for Bell, with some even having him committed to Michigan. Bell’s decision to stay at UConn was a surprising and somewhat disappointing development for the Wolverines, who had been perceived as the leader in his recruitment for quite some time.
Because of the nature of recruiting in college football and now with the transfer portal, situations can change on a dime. All the same factors—new coaching opportunities, team dynamics, personal—could come into play for Bell’s ultimate decision to stay at UConn.
