The Wisconsin Badgers have had plenty of standouts during camp, but one true freshman has risen above the other top performers.
Eugene Hilton Jr., the son of NFL legend T.Y. Hilton, was one of the premier signings in the 2025 class for the Badgers. The three-star receiver was recruited by Kenny Guiton out of high school, who is now the quarterbacks coach for Wisconsin after previously serving as the receivers coach. New receivers coach Jordan Reid has been very receptive to Hilton Jr. and plans on utilizing the receiver to the fullest in the future.
The Wisconsin Badgers have a loaded receiving room currently with Trech Kekahuna, Vinny Anthony II, Tyrell Henry, and more returning. Wisconsin also added receivers Dekel Crowdus and Jayden Ballard to the team via the transfer portal and expect each player to serve a role during the upcoming season.
Hilton Jr. is contending for playing time in one of the toughest position rooms in Madison and currently appears to be winning against seasoned veterans. The true freshman has been one of the top standouts throughout the Wisconsin camp on either side of play, impressing both the staff and media each practice.
Could Eugene Hilton Jr. Produce For the Wisconsin Badgers as a Freshman?
With the season right around the corner and Hilton Jr. looking as impressive as he has, the Badgers will certainly have to consider carving out a role for the youngster. The only issue is deciding who will pull the short straw and will have to come off of the field for Hilton Jr. to enter, unless the staff puts together larger packages to utilize the freshman.
Joseph Griffin Jr. and Dekel Crowdus are two other wide receivers who have stood out during camp, alongside starter Vinny Anthony II. Hilton Jr. will have to battle all three to find a path to the field, which could prove difficult, but some aspects of play could be on the side of the freshman.

While Hilton Jr. has impressed on the field with his physical traits and raw skill, what has really been a benefit for the receiver is his maturity at the position. Hilton Jr. has a natural ‘it’ factor about him on the field and much of that is due to the fact that he is a savvy, intelligent receiver despite being a true freshman. The receiver understands where he needs to be on the field to make a play and consistently goes into his bag to pull-out a move that will shake his defender.
Hilton Jr. has been on of the most consistent players throughout the Wisconsin Badgers camps since arriving on campus, which should say a lot about someone who is new to the collegiate environment. Finding a potential role for Hilton Jr. seems like an easy task during the upcoming season given his skillset and ability to adapt in a second.
