Kamari McGee has found his niche in the loaded Wisconsin Badgers line-up and his rise is producing good results for them.
The team is currently on a seven-game winning streak after losing 3 straight in December. This streak coincides with the senior guard getting more touches.
Head coach Greg Gard hailed McGee for being able to find his place in the squad which already boasts a lot of shooter and scoring option.
McGee is the team’s sixth man but still manages to become the country’s no. 1 three-point performer, shooting 56.4 percent from three point line.
Gard credited his player’s rise to the never-ending commitment to get better.
“He’s continued to work on his game, work on his craft,” said Gard who recently won his 200th game as Badgers coach.
“You never are too old to get better and he’s continued to get better as a senior. He’s taken really good shots, too. I think he understands the speed of the game, how he needs to play, all those things, and we’re the benefit of his upper trajectory.”
He made headlines recently for scoring 10 points in team’s win against the USC Trojans.
Kamari McGee says teammates’ trust unlocked his shooting
It is not just Gard who sees his work. Even his teammate and starting guard Max Klesmit who thought he is maturing.
McGee is now more than just a 3-point shooter. He also has an improved mid-range game and is now better at catch-and-shoot scenario.
He said he has been spending time on the lab to improve his other skills. Another key to that is the trust he is getting from his teammates.
In all my workouts, at the end of each workout, I made sure I was shooting a lot of jump shots until my arms were hurting, until I made sure I built that confidence in me. These guys, my teammates, and my coaches, they keep instilling that confidence, and I feel like a good shooter because of the reps and all the stuff I’ve been getting done.
