Wisconsin Badgers head coach Greg Gard said before that anybody can step up for the team and on Saturday, it was Carter Gilmore’s turn.
Not that the team is missing someone prominent in the line-up but they had major struggle against their hosts Northwestern Wildcats who are 13 spots below them in the Big Ten standings.
The Wildcats went up by as much as 11 points but in the second half, Gilmore happened, scoring all of his 15 points in that period.
He shot three out of five from the three point line and also grabbed seven rebounds while also providing the best hustle and defense.
John Tonje, who was the night’s top scorer with 27, praised the hardwork Gilmore has put in ever since stepping in UW-Madison.
“I know how hard he works. He’ll do anything for his teammates,” graduate guard John Tonje said. “He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had in my life. He’s lives and breathes and bleeds Wisconsin basketball. He’ll do anything he can for this team.”
One can say that the senior forward basically prevented them from getting put in a hole by the lower ranked Northwestern.
Max Klesmit on Carter Gilmore’s legacy game
Scoring is not really Gilmore’s strong suit.
However, for starting guard Max Klesmit, his humbleness is what kept him ready for this moment.
It’s his fifth year. His opportunities before in years previous have been a little limited, but it never changed his work ethic or how he went about things.
“But the thing about Gilly is he’s always positive, he’s always level-headed, comes from a really good family. So, you know, seeing him have one of those games where you kind of just break through the ceiling, it was awesome.”
