This weekend, former Wisconsin Badgers basketball head coach Bo Ryan joins basketball royalty when he is inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame during enshrinement events Saturday and Sunday.
Ryan is part of the Class of 2024 with Chauncey Billups (player), Vince Carter (player), Michael Cooper (player), Walter Davis (player), Charles Smith (coach), Seimone Augustus (player), Dick Barnett (player), Harley Redin (coach), Michele Timms (player), Doug Collins (contributor), Herb Simon (contributor), and Jerry West (contributor). Bo Ryan announced his immediate retirement as the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team on December 15, 2015, after 32 seasons as a head coach.
Bo Ryan won 747 games in college: a school-record 364 at Wisconsin. His Badger teams never finished lower than fourth in the Big Ten, never missed the NCAA tournament. Ryan, four-time league Coach of the Year, won seven league titles and guided the UW to back-to-back Final 4’s.

In the decade of the 90’s, Coach Bo Ryan led Wisconsin-Platteville to an astonishing 266-26 record AND they won the NCAA D-III National Title in 1991, 1995, 1998 AND 1999. In his last 12 seasons at Platteville, they went 157-7 at home.
Bo Ryan was also the head coach at Wisconsin Platteville from 1984 through 1999. Ryan built arguably one of the best home court advantages ever assembled as the Pioneers only lost a combined five games at home in a decade. In January 2007, the university named the basketball floor “Bo Ryan Court.
Greg Gard and Bo since arriving at Madison, Wisconsin
Greg Gard has been a part of 502 wins at Wisconsin since he joined the program back in 2001. To put this into perspective, the #Badgers had won a total of 501 games through the first 39 seasons of basketball before the arrival of Bo Ryan and his assistant Greg Gard to Madison.
Since 2001-02 when Bo Ryan & Greg Gard arrived in Madison, Wisconsin owns the best Big Ten-win percentage in the conference posting a mark of 206-94 (.687). Bo Ryan’s first team in Madison went on to go 18-11 in the regular season then made the NCAA round of 32.
