Davis Heinzen came to Wisconsin Badgers football on April this year with expectation that he will have to compete with more known guys. The other competitors should watch out as the offensive lineman is now emerging as someone whose game is hard to look away from according to OL coach AJ Blazek.

The Manitowoc-native transferred to Badgers from the Central Michigan Chippewas with mid expectations given how stacked the position is but certain developments happened including the injury to projected starter Kevin Heywood.
Heizen is stepping up to the plate and Blazek is all praises about him because of his football I.Q.
“He’s got some athleticism. He might not be quite as long as some of the tackles that have been here in the past but he’s got the feet, the movement, and the athletic ability,” Blazek said after Tuesday’s practice.

“Now it’s settling in with the guys. He’s really smart, picked it all up. When we’re looking at a guy like that, he’s got to come from an offense where they’ve asked him to think about a lot, and he does a really good job at that. He’s just fit.”
Davis Heinzen role with Wisconsin Badgers getting more defined
The task to compete for a starting role is still there but Heinzen, who redshirted for CMU in most of his stay there, might have found his niche.
Blazek said they are looking at the 6’5 OL as reinforcement for the left tackle that Heywood vacated.
Heinzen is progressing individually and the task now is for him to find and polish his fit with teammates.
“Now it’s the meshing with the guys and it’s timing, and contact and combos,” he said.
“We can’t get enough of that right now.”
Blazek then continued that he still cannot name his starting unit but they are all coming along.
