Kevin Heywood would have been Wisconsin Badgers football team’s top offensive lineman for the 2025 season but he got injured. Fortunately for the team, they instantly found ways to reinforce that position by signing Davis Heinzen from Central Michigan Chippewas.
What’s great about this signing is that Heinzen is a Wisconsin native who knows the history of the team’s OL. That’s what he vows to bring to the program.
He announced on X:
Thank you CMU for helping shape me into the person and player I am today. I’m grateful for everyone who’s been part of the journey. I’m exited to take the next step coming back to my home state to continue the offensive line tradition at the University of Wisconsin! #OnWisconsin
Heinzen will not be a shoo-in starting OL for head coach Luke Fickell. Instead, he will fight for his spot alongside Emerson Mandell, Kerry Kodanko, and JP Benzschawell.

He played 40 games for CM over the course of his four-year stint. He plans to take up a master’s degree in University of Wisconsin.
Davis Heinzen says choosing Wisconsin Badgers is no brainer
There are other Power Four teams that tried to recruit Heinzen. These are teams from Big Ten Conference, the Big 12 Conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference, and the Southeastern Conference.
However, Wisconsin has the edge over anyone when it comes to the OL’s signature as he said it is his dream to play for UW.

“My agents were reaching out to power-four schools for me,” he said in an interview with Badger247.
“It was last Friday that we heard from Wisconsin. I was very excited about that.”
“There was no hesitation. It was what I wanted all along. Once I got the Wisconsin news, I didn’t really pay attention to what else I was getting.”
