The Georgetown Hoyas were unranked entering the matchup on Tuesday night against the Marquette Golden Eagles. Georgetown led by as many as 14 points in the game and had a 38-29 lead over Marquette at the half. However, the Golden Eagles prevailed in the second half and defeated the Hoyas 74-66.
With the win for the Marquette Golden Eagles, they improved to 14-2 overall on the season. They are 5-0 in Big East Conference play and are the seventh-ranked team in the country. As for the Georgetown Hoyas, they dropped to 12-3 on the season and 3-1 in Big East Conference play.
Georgetown Hoyas Fans Confident Moving Forward Despite Loss Against the Marquette Golden Eagles
A season ago, the Hoyas were one of the worst teams in college basketball. However, in Ed Cooley’s second season with the program, Georgetown has shown major progress. Despite losing the game against the Golden Eagles, they have put the rest of the Big East Conference on notice for the remainder of the 2024-2025 college basketball season.

The Hoyas fanbase feels like they could be an NCAA Tournament team this season despite the loss against the Marquette Golden Eagles. If Georgetown can upset the UCONN Huskies on Saturday afternoon, then there is a chance that they could get some Top 25 votes next week.
Players Stats
Four players scored in double figures for Georgetown against Marquette. Malik Mack led the way with 18 points and he also grabbed two rebounds and recorded five assists. Micah Peavy scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, and recorded six assists.
Thomas Sorber recorded a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Sorber also recorded three assists. Curtis Williams Jr. scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds off the bench for the Hoyas. This will not be the last time this season that Georgetown will be mentioned in the Big East Conference after playing well in a loss against Marquette.
