The Georgetown Hoyas were unranked entering the matchup on Tuesday night against the Marquette Golden Eagles. Georgetown led by as many as 14 points in the game and had a 38-29 lead over Marquette at the half. However, the Golden Eagles prevailed in the second half and defeated the Hoyas 74-66.

A season ago, the Hoyas were one of the worst teams in college basketball. However, in Ed Cooley’s second season with the program, Georgetown has shown major progress. Despite losing the game against the Golden Eagles, they have put the rest of the Big East Conference on notice for the remainder of the 2024-2025 college basketball season.

This is what some of the Georgetown Hoyas fanbase had to say after the loss against the Marquette Golden Eagles:

    We’re on the rise boys

    — Evan Greenfield (@EvanGreenfield6) January 8, 2025

Strong showing by Georgetown. Impressed with the job Ed Cooley has done to turn around the Hoyas so quickly and make them competitive in the Big East again.

Valiant effort. Toe-to-toe on the road against a top 10 team. Go beat UConn on Saturday #HoyaSaxa

    — Jim O’Connell (@JimOConnel78388) January 8, 2025

Love this team, we’re so back. Can’t wait for Saturday

    — TidalBlueHoya (@TidalBlueHoya) January 8, 2025

Tough loss. Was hoping to squeak that out. Probably a loss to Uconn coming and hopefully beat st johns

    — Polkhigh (@Polkhigh6) January 8, 2025

The Hoyas fanbase feels like they could be an NCAA Tournament team this season despite the loss against the Marquette Golden Eagles. If Georgetown can upset the UCONN Huskies on Saturday afternoon, then there is a chance that they could get some Top 25 votes next week.
