Last week, an article was released in The Athletic that detailed the struggles of young Green Bay Packers wide receivers. Notably, Amari Rodgers, Chris Blair, and Kylin Hill shared stories of not understanding Aaron Rodgers or his hand signals. They called him unapproachable and hard to talk to. Today on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers addressed that article.

Aaron Rodgers Calls Article “The Dumbest” of the Season
Within the article, there was a great deal made of Aaron Rodgers’ hand signals. He was accused of keeping the meaning of these signs from rookie wide receivers on purpose. One has to ask oneself, “If Aaron Rodgers wanted to be successful and win, why would he keep his hand signals a secret?” That would certainly be dumb of him, which may be why he had such strong words about the article:
They wrote A LOT about your hand signals Aaron.

Why Are We Even Talking About Hand Signals?
Aaron Rodgers is a polarizing figure. Even some Packers fans and media members do not like him:
Rodgers is so unlikeable. I don't care what he's done or will do in a Packers uniform, I enjoy the team less because of him. I don't enjoy rooting for him.
I'm not trying to "troll" or "clickbait" or anything. I don't like him and it affects how I root for the team. Sorry https://t.co/PDcenauA4d

When the story came out about the hand signals, it was just one more thing that his critics could use to rail against him. However, that story also ignored the success Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, two rookies who have done well (overall) with Rodgers as their quarterback. Sure, there have been learning moments, but both have had some really nice games. Just last night, against the Rams, Doubs caught five of five passes thrown his way. Watson had four catches on six targets, and what looked like a miscommunication between him and Rodgers. Afterwards, Rodgers joked that Watson wants to keep catching touchdowns, he needs to learn the hand signals. Of course, it was a jest at the article written about him.
The fact of the matter is that some players will get the signals quickly, some will get them eventually, and some will not get them at all. One thing is certain, though: if Rodgers had it his way, they would all be able to remember and understand them. That is how they win. Rodgers wants to win. Anything suggesting otherwise is just not true.
