The Washington Commanders could pull off a Green Bay Packers if they find a way to take down the Philadelphia Eagles in this Sunday’s NFC championship game.
The Commanders, who have been a surprise (or a revelation) in the 2024 NFL campaign, are just a win away from the franchise’s first appearance in the Super Bowl since 1991, join the Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers in an extremely exclusive club with a victory versus the Eagles, per The 33rd Team:
The Commanders can become the 3rd team in NFL history to defeat each of the top 3 seeds in their conference in a single postseason 😤
Washington would join the 2005 Steelers & 2010 Packers (both won the Super Bowl that season)
The Washington Commanders are on the verge of Super Bowl return
It can be recalled that the Commanders started their playoff journey with a takedown of Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round, 23-20, at Raymond James Stadium. The Bucs, who won the NFC South division, entered the playoffs as the No. 3 seed in the NFC. Washington then proceeded to stun the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions in the divisional round via a score of 45-31, at Ford Field.
Beating the Eagles is going to be a tough task for the Commanders, but they have reason to be confident that they can get the job done at Lincoln Financial Field.
The stellar play of Jayden Daniels in the postseason gives Washington hope, as the Commanders’ rookie quarterback has thrown for 567 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions in the playoffs thus far. Plus, the Commander split their regular-season series with Philadelphia, beating the Eagles in the second showdown at home in Week 16, 36-33.
