Tiki Barber went on WFAN in New York on Monday and believes it is time for a former Green Bay Packers quarterback to take over the New York Jets starting quarterback job over Zach Wilson. Wilson struggled once again for the Jets in a 15-10 loss at home on Sunday against the New England Patriots, and they have lost 15 straight games to them.
Head coach Robert Saleh is staying committed to Wilson as the starting quarterback, but Tiki Barber wants them to try something different.
Tiki Barber Believes that Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Tim Boyle should start because of how bad Zach Wilson Has Been the last two Games
Barber said on WFAN on Monday:
“Zach Wilson thinks he knows what to do with the football. He actually has no idea what to do with the football. I want to say it’s coaching, but that’s too easy of a blame. I want to say he’s still learning and he’s still young, but the problem is, it feels like he’s still a rookie, and he’s in his third season. I can’t put that on new players, a new system, new situations. There is a confidence that he lacks. There is an outward confidence that he has, but it’s fake. It’s not real. I went and looked at Tim Boyle’s starts with the Lions. He stands in the pocket, knows what he wants to do with the football, and he delievers. It might not always be right, but it doesn’t matter. Zach Wilson doesn’t even do that. We’re talking about Tim Boyle. They are better off starting Tim Boyle.”
This whole Zach Wilson situation is a mess for the Jets after former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. The fact that Tiki Barber is calling for Tim Boyle to start over Wilson just two weeks after this experiment is something else.
New York Jets Need To Do Something
Tiki Barber is right that the Jets need a quarterback change, but it shouldn’t be former Green Bay Packers quarterback Tim Boyle. It should be signing veterans like Matt Ryan or Carson Wentz off the free agent market or trading for rental quarterback Kirk Cousins from the Minnesota Vikings. The schedule for the next four games for this football team will feature the Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the New York Giants.
If Wilson continues to stink by the bye week, it will probably be too late for the Jets to make a move. However, it is never too early to start thinking about starting Tim Boyle over him or making another move as well.
