The Marquette Golden Eagles this season are 11-2 and 2-0 in BIG East Conference play in college basketball. Despite losing Tyler Kolek and Oso Ighodaro to graduation a season ago, Marquette looks deeper and better than last season.
The Golden Eagles will be one of the favorites to win the conference this season because of senior guard Kam Jones. Jones has a chance to be the conference player of the year this season. It would be the second time in three years that a Marquette player wins that honor if Kam Jones keeps up his play.
CBS Sports Writer Kyle Boone Has Marquette Golden Eagles Guard Kam Jones Being Selected In the Middle Of the First-Round In the Latest 2025 NBA Mock Draft
Kyle Boone of CBS Sports created an NBA Mock Draft last week. In the latest mock draft, he has Marquette Golden Eagles guard Kam Jones being selected 17th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft by the Brooklyn Nets (from the Milwaukee Bucks). Boone said about this selection:
“Jones has been one of the most productive players in college basketball this season as a senior and taken his game to a new level for Marquette as a shooter while soaking up a major role as a passer. His new role has unlocked previously-unrealized potential when he played next to Tyler Kolek.”
Kam Jones being drafted by the Brooklyn Nets would be a good fit for him. The Nets are rebuilding and there is a chance that Jones would be able to play in the NBA right away after being in college for four seasons. This season with the Golden Eagles, he is averaging 20.3 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 6.4 APG, 0.2 BPG, and 1.6 SPG.
Jones is shooting 54.0% from the field, 36.1% from three-point land, and 71.8% from the free-throw line. He is 14th in the country in points per game and assists per game. There is a chance that he could continue to climb up draft boards later in the season.
Marquette Doesn’t Play Next Until New Year’s Eve
The Golden Eagles have played 13 games this season and won’t play next until New Year’s Eve against the Providence Friars. Jones will continue to make his case to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Once this college basketball season ends, there is no doubt that head coach Shaka Smart is going to miss him big time.
Jones is a better playmaker this season than he was last season. He is also the best player on Marquette’s roster despite being a deep college basketball team in 2024-2025.
