The Milwaukee Brewers will be looking to make moves during the MLB offseason. They have been in offseason mode ever since losing to the New York Mets in the National League Wild Card Round.
Milwaukee has won the National League Central the last two seasons. Closer Devin Williams will have only one year left on his contract. It will be interesting to see if Milwaukee hangs onto him this offseason or not.
Boston Red Sox Could Trade For Milwaukee Brewers Closer Devin Williams This Offseason
The Red Sox last season finished with an 81-81 record and missed the playoffs. Boston feels like if they make the proper moves this offseason, they could be a playoff team in 2025. One of the biggest issues last season for them was the bullpen.
Stephen Mottram of Sportsillustrated.com thinks that the Red Sox could very well make a move for the Brewers closer this offseason. Mottram said:
“The Boston Red Sox, like many teams, are in desperate need of a high-leverage reliever after losing Kenley Jansen to free agency. However, Boston has one of the best farm systems in Major League Baseball to utilize in their hunt for a better bullpen.
In the 2024 regular season, the Red Sox bullpen had a combined 4.39 ERA, just 24th in the majors. If the club wants to get serious about upgrading for next season, Brewers’ right-hander Devin Williams may be the answer.”
The Boston Red Sox have six prospects in the MLB Top 100. It would be interesting to see if Boston would deal with one of those prospects for a high-leverage reliever.
Stats
Devin Williams is 30 years old. He had 14 saves last season with the Milwaukee Brewers. Williams could very well be the closer immediately for the Boston Red Sox.
Williams had a 1.25 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He pitched in 21.2 innings and gave up 10 hits and three runs. Devin Williams also walked 11 batters and struck out 38 batters. He has a chance to be even better in 2025 with Milwaukee, Boston, or somewhere else.
