It has been a busy day for the Packers and fans. Between roster moves and endless amounts of noteworthy media moments, Green Bay has stayed busy all day.
The Backbone for The Packers
One comment worth noting comes from Rashan Gary who spoke about the look of the Packers defense heading into 2022. He also spoke about how the Packers defense is player led and the benefits of keeping everyone accountable. Gary, 24, is entering his fourth NFL season and aims to improve after his best year in 2021. Last season, Gary had 9.5 sacks, eight TFL’s, and 28 QB hits. He finished the season with a defensive grade of 89.2 in a dominant display of his ability.
The Packers Confidence is Electric
When Gary was asked about the Packers defense coming into 2022, he said they had the same expectations as everyone else. Gary said he understands fans and analysts expect them to make the Super Bowl this season, but the most important part to him is “…Bringing it back to Green Bay, Wisconsin” referring to the Lombardi Trophy. He also stressed the importance of the defense working as a unit when he was asked about their progress.
Gary was quoted saying, “When someone messes up with a play, before the coach says it, we’re already on them because it’s a player led team.” Gary stressed the concept of the defense, and the team in general, being player led. He elaborated to say the players make sure everyone knows when something went wrong and how they should fix it. He believes this style will allow players to react and understand their mistakes positively instead of being told to fix it by the coaching staff.
Gary also never made any sort of sign that the players decided to take matters into their own hands. The situation seems like veterans players are taking the information from the coaching staff. Then, they are using the information and relaying it to other players in practice. Multiple players have hinted at the defense having a desire to work as a more cohesive unit and having veterans keep each other accountable is a great start.
