Quay Walker is in the middle of several trade talks, labelling him as an underperformer. His teammate Xavier McKinney has a totally different opinion.
The Green Bay Packers exited the 2024-25 season through a wildcard loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and they now have to turn their attention to the offseason to rebuild.
Defense is being labelled as the area that needs improvement for the team and Walker is tagged as those who could be on his way out.
For McKinney, the 24-year-old linebacker is doing well in his role. In fact, he is among the best linebackers in the league.
“I think he’s one of the best linebackers in the league,” the 2024 All-Pro Team member said during his guesting the NFL Spotlight Podcast.
“There are a lot of things he can do that a lot of linebackers cannot do. I think he’s going to continue to keep getting better. I think he’s going to continue to grow as a player. In the future, he’s going to be the best linebacker in the league. You can write that down.”
Walker played just nine games last season, recording just 72 total tackles, significantly less than what he made in his first two seasons with the team.
Against the Eagles, he made 20 tackles.
Will Xavier McKinney’s words change Packers’ mind?
McKinney vouched for Walker’s potential but will his words be enough to make Packers realize that they still need him?
His underperformance in the 2024-25 season is being pointed to as the reason why should go.
According to the latest rumors, teams are interested on the 2022 2nd overall draft pick. Among those is the Baltimore Ravens.
NFL analyst Kristopher Knox wrote via Bleacher Report:
Walker could be an intriguing trade candidate this offseason. He has underperformed so far with the Packers and the right offer could entice them to move on.
As for the Ravens, they have long been known as a great linebacker destination. They have build up many great linebackers and always seem to have talent at the position. Walker could reach his full potential with a change of scenery if Green Bay is open to the idea.
