Packers defensive line coach Jason Rebrovich didn’t hesitate.
When Rebrovich was asked recently who has stood out the most in his unit during the Packers’ recent torrid stretch, he almost instantly called out TJ Slaton as “the most improved” defensive lineman over the past six weeks.
Slaton enters Thursday night’s showdown against the Detroit Lions, and one of the most explosive backfield duos in the NFL, with 20 total tackles, including seven of them coming during the past four games, along with one sack and three tackles so far this season.
Pro Football Focus also backs up Rebrovich’s praise, noting that Slaton has produced 12 quarterback pressures and made 10 stops in the running game, so far this season.
Against the Lions, the Packers are going to need Slaton to replicate — and build on, his key role in Green Bay’s goal-line stand against the Dolphins on Thanksgiving night, against Detroit’s electrifying pair of running backs, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.
Montgomery and Gibbs have combined for 1,693 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, so far this season, and will likely be a focal point of Detroit’s game plan against the Packers on Thursday night.
