Romeo Doubs caught his first touchdown in Week 3
First touchdowns in the NFL are a special moment for any player. For a rookie wide receiver, the moment is a breakthrough that can help with the mental part of their game. Romeo Doubs finally caught his first touchdown pass in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The touchdown caught the eye of his quarterback Aaron Rodgers who wants to get the ball to Doubs more now.
Hopefully, many more touchdowns are in Doubs’ future. But his first one will always be special. According to ESPN, Doubs has ideas for what he wants to do with the football he caught for his first touchdown:
The fourth-round pick said he was about to toss the ball to the referee in the end zone until someone said, “No, it’s your first touchdown.” He isn’t keeping it for himself, though.
“I plan to give it to my family because family is first,” Doubs said. “They got me to this point — my mother, my brother, my whole family. That’s my mom’s until her days are over with.”
The Green Bay Packers rookie is a better man than me. I’d definitely want to keep that football as a souvenir.
Doubs is expected to have a more significant role in the future
Doubs has taken advantage of the opportunities he’s been given this season. With the Packers’ injuries at wide receiver, Doubs has stepped up to take on a major role for the team. With wide receiver Sammy Watkins on injured reserve, that significant role should continue for Doubs. He’s already chasing impressive rookie records after Week 3.
Doubs will have a chance to increase his stats against the New England Patriots in Week 4. The Packers should be able to take advantage of an injured Patriots team. Let’s see if Doubs can double his touchdowns on the season this week. But that ball he catches won’t be as memorable as the first one he’s giving to his family.
