The Green Bay Packers know that something will need to happen this off-season if they want to go from a playoff contender to a Super Bowl contender. While Green Bay has made the post season two seasons in a row and improved their win total from 2023 to 2024, many feel this team is still a few pieces away from competing for a Super Bowl.
However, one move on offense could be a massive attempt to correct that.
“1 For 1 Swap Proposal” Packers’ Romeo Doubs Used To Grab Elite Playmaker
The Green Bay Packers have overloaded their receivers the last couple of seasons, but no one has been able to establish themselves as the Packers’ true #1 WR:
On Saturday, FanSided’s Freddie Boston came up with a trade idea that would send Metcalf to Green Bay in exchange for Doubs and the Packers’ 2025 fourth-round pick.
“Seattle must fix a salary-cap mess before the start of the new league year. According to Over The Cap, it must clear $27.5 million to get back to zero,” Boston wrote. “Trading or releasing Metcalf, who only has one year remaining on his contract, would free up almost $11 million of that figure.”
“The Packers add a difference-maker on offense. Metcalf would become a consistent, go-to target for Love while giving them another way to stretch defenses vertically with Christian Watson sidelined for much of the year.”
Metcalf is still only 27, and while he missed two full games and parts of others due to injury this year, he still managed 992 receiving yards. He’s got two seasons with double-digit touchdowns under his belt and averages 1,108 yards per 17 games in his six-year career.
As a result of the Seahawks’ salary needs, the Packers may not be forced to give up much for Metcalf, who has a relatively short-term, expensive contract. It is that kind of shrewd thinking that will elevate this roster to contender status.
