When the Green Bay Packers made the decision to trade Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets after the 2022 NFL season, many people believed that they were making a mistake. In the minds of many fans and NFL analysts, Jordan Love was a steep downgrade from the four-time NFL MVP and future Pro Football Hall of Famer, who led Green Bay to an 8-9 record and missed the playoffs in 2022.
However, the opposite has been true. Love led the Packers to a 9-8 record and the seventh seed in the NFC as well as an upset over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. He also had the best first-season as a starter in franchise history:
Quarterback | Completion % | Yards | Touchdowns | Interceptions | Passer Rating |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Jordan Love | 64.2% | 4,159 | 32 | 11 | 96.1 |
Aaron Rodgers | 63.6% | 4,038 | 28 | 13 | 93.8 |
Brett Favre | 64.1% | 3,227 | 18 | 13 | 85.3 |
Rodgers, meanwhile, missed all but four snaps of the 2023 season with a torn Achilles while the Jets finished 7-10.
The Green Bay Packers Have Been Better with Jordan Love than the New York Jets with Aaron Rodgers
Before the 2024 season, hopes were high once again in New York. Rodgers was healthy, they had what they believed would be an improved offensive line and group of pass catchers, and their defense was supposed to, once again, be among the best in the NFL.
Green Bay, meanwhile, looked to build off their success from 2023 and take the next step as a team.
So far, it has worked out for one of them.
Love and the Packers are 8-3 and have a 94% chance of making the NFL Playoffs again this year. Love has not been as sharp as he was in 2023, but is still having a respectable season with a 61.8% completion percentage, 2,244 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 92.0 passer rating.
Rodgers and the Jets, meanwhile, are 3-8 and have less than a 1% chance of making the playoffs. Rodgers has a 63.8% completion percentage, 2,442 passing yards, 17 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and an 88.9 passer rating.
Of course, the Jets have been an absolute disaster all season, having fired Robert Saleh after starting 2-3 and then dismissing general manager Joe Douglas before the final year of his contract was over.
There were reports that Rodgers and Jets owner Woody Johnson had a falling out. Furthermore, the rumors stated that Rodgers did not want to play for the Jets in 2025, nor did the Jets want him back.
But that was last week, and this is this week, and as ever, Rodgers has a different story.
Green Bay Packers Fans Mock Aaron Rodgers and the Jets Over the QB’s Latest Comments
Last week, there were several reports about Rodgers that painted him and the Jets in a negative light. In addition to neither wanting to continue forward together in 2025, some suggested that New York would bench and/or release Rodgers later this season. Furthermore, other reports stated that the future Pro Football Hall of Famer has been playing hurt all season, but has refused any medical scans out of fear he would be taken of the field.
Not surprisingly, Rodgers denied it all on the Pat McAfee Show:
As can be seen in the video, Rodgers denies that he has refused to get any scans, stating that he and the Jets medical staff have great conversations and that he knows his body better than anyone.
While he stopped short of committing to play in the NFL in 2025, he did state that, if he does play, the Jets would be his first choice as a team to play for.
Packers and Jets fans took to social media to make their feelings about this contradiction quite clear:

This garbage franchise being held hostage by this loser brings a tear to my eye. They both deserve each other. I hope their miserable, loveless marriage continues https://t.co/ZJZHpQ0znF

Just say no, Woody!
Take the decision out of his hands. https://t.co/FlveeJWApS

Of course, Rodgers may not have a choice of whether or not he returns to the Jets next season. The main group of people that brought him in, Saleh, Douglas, and Nathaniel Hackett, are all gone or will be gone soon (in Hackett’s case).
The new regime will likely want a fresh slate.
