Aaron Jones will never forget his stint with the Green Bay Packers. While he’s now playing for the Packers rivals, the Minnesota Vikings running back has fond memories of his time with Green Bay. With that said, he can be expected to have a potpourri of thoughts and emotions when he returns to Lambeau Field this coming Sunday for a game against his former team which will also be his first game against the Packers since he split ways with them last offseason.
Aaron Jones Remembers When Turning Into a Green Bay Packers Player Made Dad Forget America’s Team
Perhaps among the memories that will flood Jones on Sunday will be that of his dad, Alvin Jones Sr., who used to be a Dallas Cowboys fan until Jones was drafted by the Packers in 2017.
Via The Players’ Tribue:
He was a diehard Cowboys fan (you know the kind) … but as soon as I got drafted by Green Bay, none of that mattered. You weren’t going to see a Cowboys color in our house ever again. It was dark green, cheese gold, Packers everything. He came to every game — every single one. During pregame, he’d make sure he was in the end zone where we were warming up. I’d go find him before kickoff and shake his hand, then he’d kiss me on the forehead and tell me how proud he was. “Go rip it up, go have a day.” That’s how he’d leave it.
Aaron flourished with the Packers, as he eventually became the team’s top option on the ground. His dad passed away in 2021 due to COVID-19 complications but he was able to see Aaron have great years with the Packers, including the 2020 season where Aaron became a first-time Pro Bowler.
“This was my dad’s team,” Jones said after he and the Packers beat the Dallas Cowboys in a NFC Wild Card game last season, per Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com. “This was my team growing up. You always want to be like your father, so that’s how it became my team. Emmitt Smith was my favorite running back. My first jersey was a ’22.’ I got the chance to speak to him before the game, so that was special to me as well.”
