The Green Bay Packers announced their arrival as legitimate threats in the NFC, in a convincing statement victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.
Sunday’s 30-13 drubbing of the NFC-West leading Seahawks was a declaration that the NFL’s youngest offense buttressed by one of the league’s ascending defenses has the pieces in place to compete with anyone. After all, the Packers’ blowout win came 10 days after taking the Detroit Lions to the brink, falling a field goal shy of pulling off what would have been a fourth consecutive win.
One NFL offensive coach suggests that there are two critical aspects of head coach Matt LaFleur’s team that are coming together at exactly the right time, for a team that looks plenty capable of throwing its weight around and making some serious noise when the playoffs get underway next month.
“The Packers are dangerous because they’re really balanced on offense,” a rival offensive coach told me Sunday night. “And they’re playing really solid defense.”
Both of those attributes shined through for the Packers in Week 15.
‘Balance’ Shining Through for Packers During Playoff Push
Not only did Jordan Love complete passes to seven different Packers while finishing 20-of-27 passing for 229 yards and two touchdowns but Josh Jacobs continues to prove capable of being a focal point while rushing for 94 yards and a score.
Meanwhile, defensively, the Packers’ defense imposed its will on the Seahawks’ offense all night, including rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper pulling down the first interception of his career while flashing an elite nose for the ball throughout the game.
This is also a battle-tested team, with wins over the Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, and Houston Texans, all current playoff teams if the regular season ended today.
The Packers are playing their best football at the right time and just might have the pieces in place to make a playoff run because they have all the attributes of a contender.
