The decision the Green Bay Packers made to move on from the franchise’s all-time leading scorer, Mason Crosby, was not a very popular one. This decision came under even more scrutiny when Carlson struggled during his first week of training camp. Many fans were calling on the team to bring back Crosby, who still remains a free agent.
However, on Family Night this past Saturday, Carlson made eight of his nine field goal attempts, and the only one he missed was due to a botched snap and bad hold. Still, one good night does not earn a player a job in the NFL. It is going to be important for Carlson to build on that success.
And that is just what he did on Monday.
Anders Carlson Builds His Case as Mason Crosby’s Replacement as Green Bay Packers Training Camp Continues

During training camp practice on Monday, Carlson got his first opportunity to show that his Family Night success was no fluke. He delivered, making five of his six field goal attempts, per Andy Herman.
His lone miss came from 45 yards out, but he made his final three kicks of the day, all from 50+ yards out. Herman also reported that the wind was working against Carlson on Monday as well.
Of course, this practice, too, does not guarantee that Carlson is 100% going to be the Packers’ kicker in 2023. He has a big week ahead with joint practices and a preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals. How he performs during these matchups will determine a great deal.
