NFL News: The Green Bay Packers will field a very talented secondary going into the 2023 NFL season. Headlined by star cornerback Jaire Alexander, the Packers have a well-rounded group at the cornerback position. Rasul Douglas and Eric Stokes have shined with this defense at times, and the likelihood that star return man Keisean Nixon gets more playing time in the secondary is high. However, will all that being said, there is one name that could round out that group for the future.
Green Bay Packers Expected To Target CB Kool-Aid McKinstry In 2024 NFL Draft (NFL News)
Dalton Wasserman of Pro Football Focus published an article stating he thinks this could be an “impact” addition for he Green Bay Packers:
Green Bay’s success will depend on the roster construction around Jordan Love. Their pass catchers are talented but incredibly young. Their best chance to win will be through their running game and defense.
Kool-Aid McKinstry is someone who could make an immediate impact in 2024. He is currently PFF’s top-rated cornerback in the 2024 class and led the nation last season with 16 pass breakups. His 57.9 passer rating allowed is excellent considering he had 80 balls thrown his way, the eighth most in the country. The Packers have had issues finding someone to produce opposite Jaire Alexander. McKinstry could be the answer.
What Will The Green Bay Packers Secondary Look Like In 2023?
At a press conference in mid-May, Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry gave an indication on the starting Green Bay Packers secondary and one notable name was missing.
Barry did put a caveat on his statement. “It’s May,” he said before talking about who will start where when OTAs begin next week. Alexander and Rasul Douglas will be at corner with Nixon in the slot. There’s one name missing in that group. Third-year corner Eric Stokes was not mentioned. After his rookie season, it looked like Stokes was on the fast track to becoming a great corner opposite Alexander. After being injured for most of his sophomore season, questions are now being raised about when he will see the field.
The Green Bay Packers secondary looked like a bright spot in the Joe Barry led defense. Now, it has some questions. The Eric Stokes situation is one to watch this offseason for the Green Bay Packers in preparation for next year’s draft.
